[ Claude looks pretty tired already, and it's barely noon. When he spots Caleb though, he'll pause his quest for a nap and give him a concerned look, remembering the CYOA from yesterday that I missed. ]
[Not great, Claude. Not great. He's healed, mostly, though he has some ugly bruises around his neck peeking out from under his scarf. Mostly, though, he looks a little drunk and a little tired.]
Well, most of it was pretty stupid, and you don't have to worry about it. He and I got married and adopted two cats? He got a curse that made him laugh a lot?
[It was about that level of ridiculous.]
But. . . towards the end, there was some sort of effect. Screaming heads that made, uhm, Dimitri and Mollymauk go a little crazy. The injuries we had - most of them were from that. Sagihara held Dimitri off for a little while, and I think it was okay, but if he's struggling after it will have been from that.
Which is somewhat similar to what all this purportedly is, no? I think it's probably a coincidence, I just thought it was interesting given all the other trips have just been.
Well, they all have certain repeating themes, yes? Fighting against other people here, having memories tampered with, seeing loved ones from home who are trapped.
I'd thought of them as tests of character or resolution. [ He thinks about it, and then adds, wryly, ] Hm, maybe they are. This is a "school" after all.
week 5, friday, outside
Hey, how're you holding up?
no subject
. . . Well. I have had better days.
no subject
I can imagine. It's been a rough couple days for you. [ ... ] And certainly for Beau.
no subject
[He wishes he was just recovering from a CYOA.]

[ Resisting the urge to sigh again, he jerks his head toward the Summer dorm. ]
In the meantime, want some tea?
no subject
Sure, I would like some.
no subject
Anyway, he'll get some tea ready once they're in the common room. ]
Uh... by the way. [ Glances over at Caleb. ] Is Dimitri all right? After yesterday?
no subject
. . . Well, he was still cursed last night, so it was hard to tell. The laughing. I think so?
I don't mind telling you what happened, if you couldn't get it from him.

[ Dimitri's week... ]
But uh, yeah. I'd appreciate it.

I see. [ He hands Caleb the long awaited tea. ] I had thought the field trips were a way to test our character and strength of will. But?
no subject
No, to my thinking they are just to torture us between little jokes.
no subject
[ He sinks into a bean bag. ]
I feel like this is the first time a field trip has been so directly related to our experience at the school.
no subject
In what sense?

Your description sounds like one of those come to life. But I could be misunderstanding.

[ How does he describe them? ]
Completely different.
