You have a point. Though it seems some time has passed for some of the people here. It's been ten years for Hope since we were last at the school, and only a week for me.

You just have to hope they're the same people you knew.

That can be said about any point in time. Depending on what people went back to, they could change overnight. Then again, there’s the opposite problem too — the occasional situation where you find yourself dealing with someone you recognised quite a few years ago.

But I don’t remember the little Faerghus Prince looking quite that little.

I mean, it should be obvious enough. Unless it's only the outside that's changed for some reason, there's no doubt that we've been plucked from different points in time.

That just makes things more complicated. And headache inducing.

Tell me about it. I've had one kid tell me his last game was with a younger version of me, but I can sure as hell tell you I have no memory of being in some death game as a teenager.

Well, if you, the prince and Gautier all showed up here looking five years younger than you are, I’d be pretty confused myself.

… Maybe both are true. If they’re insisting they saw you there, and you have no memory of it, it’s the only thing I can think of even if it is improbable. That, or a convenient bout of just as improbable amnesia.

Not without a magic wish. People are too prone to conflict, wouldn't you say?

Conflict, and differing opinions. If the kindle doesn't spark at one point, it will at another, but the end result is always the same.

That's what magic wishes are for.

Is that what you had to resort to then? Can’t say I don’t see the appeal, if it got all the messy fighting to stop.

It would've been pretty noble to use my wish for that, but I didn't.

But there might be someone out there kinder than me.

Maybe. Better hope so or Fódlan is going to continue to get messier and messier.

You don't think things could improve without magical intervention?

Not quick enough for my liking. Oh, it can improve, probably. But when there's time to figure things out and not a war going on.

Five years does feel like long enough.

I take it you used your wish to end the war then?

Please, I had to filter through all the things that needed my attention when I was making a wish.

[shaft]

Yeah, I’m a social butterfly.

I have other things I’m responsible for. I have to weigh up those immediate needs against longer term ones. You know how it is.

I hate to picture what'll happen to me if I ever have kids. That's one too many sources of responsibility.
