Seems foolish. I'd cherish the company of a friend during hardship.

But I can understand too. My worst nightmare is someone getting hurt because of my mess.

I'm not sure why you're both better and worse than how you make yourself seem.

[ she doesn't say it like it's a bad thing, more like something she's trying to piece together. ]

... I'm not quite sure what to make of that assessment.

People can be pretty complicated.

I only hope you can learn to trust people more.

Is that how you took your friend's refusal of your help? A lack of trust?

No. I know he trusts me.

[ she looks up at him through her eyelashes. ]

That's how I think you are.

And our situations are different?

I trust that you are a good person, with the best intentions at heart.

[ she smiles. ]

That's answer enough, isn't it? I wasn't going to be offended if you said no.

That isn't too say there aren't people I trust wholly.

My opinion wouldn't change. It's difficult to watch someone get hurt because of you, isn't it?

Sometimes, it's necessary.

But I don't think it's too difficult to see it's hard for you to trust.
